A fast Google seek for “sharks” drums up a sampling of headlines of current sightings. “Leopard Sharks Return to La Jolla Waters in Droves,” reads one, whereas one other highlights a “cluster of juvenile nice white sharks off Pacific Palisades coast.” There’s been a gentle stream of those sorts of tales all summer season: sharks swimming eerily near unknowing swimmers close by.

If there appear to be extra shark sightings than ever, it might be because of drones.
