Drones show California’s great white sharks are closer — and more common — than you think

LOS ANGELES — Carlos Gauna surveys the wind-blown waves off a preferred Santa Barbara County seaside. It is a chilly, grey afternoon and just a few persons are within the water: a father educating his son to surf, a lone man wading within the whitewash.

Gauna launches his video drone, hoping to spy what is perhaps shifting stealthily amongst them — nice white sharks.
